I think out of all the magic tricks Mat has performed, this one is my favorite. The craziest trick I've ever seen him do. He deserved to win this show.

Edit: if you look closely at when mel b took the picture and compare it to the picture on the supposedly same phone you can tell she is making a different face and its obviously a different picture and phone...

Mat honestly AMAZED me from the start & I've always looked forward to all of his performances. He is incredibly talent & genius at what he does. His acts are always so original & he really knows how to fool everyone & pull off a superb show!

The magicians this year are all so awesome! But this guy is the best so far.

Feel bad for the guy who has the sit there for the rest of the show.

He is amazing, he keeps getting better and better, he will go on. I haven't watched smoothini performing yet, but the pressure is on!

Another great performance. Matt has been the most consistently good magician in the competition, no bad performances, unlike the others. I hope both he and Smoothini make it to the top 12, so we can have a 4 magician shootout.

Ok let me explain the trick: 1) Mat used a deck of cards that had an all 6 section an all 4 section and an all 2 section with only the bottom 2 cards being an ace and a king. Then when he fanned out the cards he hid the ace and king at the bottom so they can't be picked. Look at 0:11 as Howard takes from the first section then at 0:19 when Hyde takes from the middle (he even says to) and at 0:28 as Howy takes from the end section because that's how Mat is holding the cards to him. 2)Before the show Mat prepared by putting an identical iphone in chair 642 because that's the only possible combination. (he can easily research her phone type and ringtone) 3) He takes 2 photos because the first is the actual photo and the second time he just sends it to the phone in the chair (that's why he only shows one photo at the end) 4) Look at: 0:35 how he holds his left arm completely still and 0:54 at the square shape in his sleeve. He has a fake phone in there. 5) At: 1:03 when we don't see him he switches the phones which is easy for a good magician and I can prove this because straight after he rolls up his sleeves and drops the fake phone in the water 6) Mat then makes the phone disappear because the folds the fabric in a special way so that it fits into a sleeve. Pause at: 2:02 and you will see the outline of the phone in the fabric (its in a small pocket and hidden you can also tell by the way he put the phone in at: 1:38 ). The hair dryer blows out the smoke. 7) Hyde calls the phone and Mels phone will not ring because Mat out it on silent while holding it before. And then Mat presses a button and makes the other phone ring and he then cuts open the chair, shows the sent pic and pre-set seat number that matches the cards and voila crown amazed (but not me) Mat has 3 phones in total: the fake sleeve phone that can drop in water, the seat phone and the real Mel's phone!

It gets more and more AAAAAMAAAAZING every time I watch this. He is the REAL DEAL!

Though this trick was pretty over the top, it was still pretty cool. At 0:55 he reaches his arm down, probably to retrieve a fake phone in his sleeve, and switches with the real one when he asked for a second photo (which he didn't show at the end) and the camera changes. There was probably a mic in the seat, and he might have concealed the real one with the knife in his hand, and dropped it in when he cut the hole. Plus, why would Mel have her ringtone on during a show?

JUST THIS ONE ACT WAS WORTH ONE MILLION. HE COULD LITERLY SIT IN A CHAIR FOR HIS NEXT ACT BUT HE STILL DESERVES IT

People need to stop arguing on how he did it and accept the fact that he fooled you.

Pretty much the best magic trick I have ever seen in my life.

Now that I've finished that last rib, I'll give some hints: - From the start till 0:54 he had his left hand raised and his left sleeve all the way down. Why? Because there was an extra (probably fake) identical phone hiding there. You can even see the whole time that the sleeve has a strange bricky shape below. At that last second he pulled his hand down to get it and throw it in the cup, but the camera went off him, so I can't say exactly where he hide Mel's phone. - I don't have to explain how the fake phone 'disappeared', or where the smoke came from. Do I? - Mel is not the brightest human, but why would she have her phone on ringing during a live show? In addition, unless that iphone had a multi-channel cinematic surround stereo system (!) or was connected with the theater's speakers, it wouldn't sound like that. At all. - Either he was so fast and put the phone when he ripped off that seat, or the guy sitting there was an accomplice who had the same phone, received the photo (by one of many methods), and had plenty of time to put it there. And in this case the cards the judges draw where predetermined. He didn't show the full deck of cards, did he?

Great job. I believe Mels actual phone (which he had palmed earlier before dropping a decoy into the water) is in a contraption in his left sleeve, and after the first knife thrust the phone is ejected into his left hand and at 3:28 you can see him deftly slide the phone into the seat through a diagonal slit on top, which can clearly be seen. When MelB reaches in she goes right for that corner where the slit is and pulls out her actual phone.

Well despite how he did the trick, he was awesome out there. It was like a universal magic trick. He escalated his tricks throughout the whole act. It went to 3 number cards matching the seat, to having a phone "vanished" into the seats as he cuts it open and prove it's her phone with the picture. His tricks are always entertaining and always getting better. Such a consistent magician. I believe none of the magic acts is comparable with Matt. Matt Franco for the winner of AGT 2014?? MAYBE???

OK OK OK!!! I've watched this over and over and I'm pretty sure I have it figured out. It's pretty simple, but VERY clever! The Deck: The whole deck is made up of 6's, 4's, and 2's, and the judges pick from the top stock, middle, or bottom. (he has two random cards on the bottom of the deck, but they stay on the bottom.) These cards equal the gimmicked seat number. Obviously he wouldn't cut up a real seat in the theatre. In this seat lies a replica phone. (We'll call it phone 1.) The Phone: Somehow BEFORE the show, he had to find out what kind of phone Mel had, what it looked like, what ringtone would play when Heidi called, but ALSO right before the trick he had to have someone (one of the judges likely Heidi) switch a replica phone with Mel's actual phone. So she just thinks it's her phone the whole time but the one from her purse is a replica. (We'll call the purse phone Phone 2.) The Picture: Mel holds the cards he forced on the judges. You can see her hand position is low, the 4 is slanted slightly and right at 0:53 her mouth opens. THIS IS THE ACTUAL PICTURE HE TAKES WITH THAT PHONE. He then tells her to hold the cards higher and he'll get one more picture. At this time he actually sends the first and ONLY pic to Phone 1 (the phone in the seat.) So now Phone 2, is useless to him. He can drop it in water, ACTUALLY destroy it, or make it vanish into a hidden pouch in a handkerchief. Accomplices: Now, the reason I said Heidi is likely in on it is because she calls Phone 1 (unless Mat somehow stole Heidi's phone too and changed Mel's number.) But the rest is simple. Mat cuts open the gimmicked seat filled with foam and fluff, and Mel reaches in to find Phone 1. The judges are there to judge him on his performance. They're not necessarily there to be fooled.

I know how he did one simple part of the trick. When taking the second picture, he really didn't take a picture. He was holding down the top button to turn it off, to make sure it looks absolutely broken - he was hoping she didn't hold down the button, and luckily she didn't. And that's how he made it seem that if the phone was actually broken.

Awesome looking trick. This is how it was possibly done. You place an iphone under the seat # 642 before the show starts. With the card trick, he makes sure that the cards are always 2, 4 and 6. Look at 0:07, he picks a bunch of cards (all 6s). Between then and Heidi, he makes sure he has all 4s in his hand. Between then and Howie again he switches the cards in his hands to be all 2s. Now we have the number 642 (seat #). If that iphone 5c is really Mel's phone (which I doubt it is), she possibly damaged it in this trick. He probably gave the phone to her to use for the magic trick and gave Heidi another for her to call with. While he says he is talking the second pic, he sends the picture to the phone (maybe behind the scenes his assistant uses a software to send it) under seat #642. He drops the phone in water, it may have just lost battery (or an app to blackout the screen). He then puts the phone in his black cloth which has a pocket (in the center of the cloth). At 1:38, you can he folds it and carefully places it in the pocket. The drier again creates the smoke after it starts. At 2:02, you can see in borders of the phone in the middle of the cloth. The phone remains here and doesn't leave from here for the remainder of the trick. When Heidi calls, she is calling the phone under the seat. He then walks Mel to the seat and dramatically tears it open to retrieve the phone. The photo he retrieves from the phone is the first pic, with her mouth open (matching her jaw dropped posture at 0:53). Great implementation.
