Every 1 is saying that he dragged out the "I" too long but that just made it 10x funnier. It's like y'all don't understand it. The more the guy said "I" the more unconvincing his next words were. The comedic timing has to be spot on to execute a joke like this. To basically do a "looping" sound or action over and over, instead of more words to tell the joke, this isn't something that will land well if you aren't a comedic genius. Preacher is a comedic genius. Yes, the joke may only land for 50% of the crowd, but that is the point. You go back and watch this (5 years later) and absolutely roll.
