I'm not a good drummer, but it is oddly not that hard to sing and play drums. Lots of drummers sing, and a few of them are really good singers (Karen Carpenter and Don Henley, for example). Drumming keeps you loose, and that looseness lets you be more vocally expressive. That said, I don't want to take away from what Mia did in this video, which was really cool. She sounded great, looked great, and deserved the response she got.

Watch Paulina Villarreal from The Warning. She's a freakin rockstar. At 20, already one of the best female drummers IMO and she sings lead for some of their songs and backing vocals on the rest. Also plays amazing piano. Not to mention she wrote a concept album, their 2nd album, at 14 called Queen of the Murder Scene

Only Howie realized how incredibly skilled a person has to be to use a loop machine well, especially as a 17 year old student. She is a great song writer, knows how to play many instruments, has decided her own style, and can sing in such a sweet voice? Amazing!
@chaosh7040
@chaosh7040 2 жыл бұрын
I hope you realized by his comment of, "Oh...looping" that he had already heard of looping... Thousands of people do this on you tube (& plenty of other formats) every day... You're right that she is very good at it...but it's not anything original on her part (& plenty of the others are also very good at it).
@storygirl747watts4
@storygirl747watts4 2 жыл бұрын
@@chaosh7040 Fair point, but in today's world, I don't know of many artists who are multi-talented with instruments. Most musicians I've seen perform do one, usually piano, or a little guitar or a drum solo, but not for their whole song. The only artist that I know of right now who is multi-talented with instruments is H.E.R. outside of her I know Prince was multi-talented with instruments. I value this kind of act way more than a simple vocalist/singer because of her ability to utilize other instruments (even for a short time), so well in a live performance.
@chaosh7040
@chaosh7040 2 жыл бұрын
@@storygirl747watts4 did you notice the crowd reaction when she said "I'm also a multi instrumentalist" (even before Howie had her explain what a loop pedal was)? It is a known thing...there are thousands of multi instrumentalists doing the same thing already...they are all over the internet... But at her age she is phenomenal with the amount of experience she has already & her ability to do exact duplicates of at least just about any drum part...& most of the others use a synth sampler for a lot of their parts...but there are quite a few others like her...some pretty good ones in fact (I'd be willing to bet she has probably collaborated with a few of them). As far as professional musicians go there are many that are multi instrumentalist... Most popular would have to be Tom Shultz from Boston...the whole 1st album was just him on every string you hear & the band was hired to play them live (& kept around because they were all phenomenal musicians in their own right). Wired Al's whole band are all multi instrumentalists...you should catch him in concerts time...it amazing. There really is so many it would take a whole other thread to mention just a portion of them.

Totally agree and frankly that's a wakeup to AL who isn't doing much nowadays...even though her music has given me so much pleasure.. Bigger question is how far Simon has fallen, if he doesn't see the monetary value in this. He saw Callum Scott all those years ago...maybe he just don't care anymore as Ms. Morris could go further... maybe he's just made too much and doesn't care anymore...as I've known him on and most happily off since TPT days, I hope it is the latter so he can stop having such a profoundly crap influence over global music,,,...hit me up DV...let's chat one day about that chat in Browns and how you got it oh so wrong...

Some fools are saying "there are guitar parts towards the end she didn't actually play"...but all of those guitar parts at the end were played in that little bit of riffing she did during her voice box part & she sampled them all together in that short time she had her hands on the keyboard...while playing the drums with her other hand & singing at the same time.

School isn’t for everyone. That’s true. If only there were a school that could combine her love of music and increase her joy of learning. Sigh. She’s smarter than she may realize judging from her original song lyrics. What gorgeous girl sings your father thinks I’m a loser?! Haha!!! Love that because the father is immediately identified as THE loser! Ha!!!! She’s terrific!

I agree with you, and those performing arts schools are so few and far between, most have tuition, and unless you happen to live close to one, must factor in travel. Would be cool to see more of them in public school system somehow? But that costs money - probably why theres tuition :(

Finally, a comment that felt exactly what I felt. Even the judges didn't feel it. Aside from the Ed Sheeran part, which I can't relate to at all. DiAnna must be a huge fan. Yes, he releases some seriously good stuff just like the recent one still playing on the radio today, "Shivers". One thing for sure is, Mia definitely gives you vibes of "Avril Lavigne" in her younger years, but with looping abilities. I bet you she's a Sk8er Grl. 🤣🤣🤣
