It's all part of the act.. those locks are rigged so he can easily pick them then the chainsaw isn't even a proper chainsaw it's cutting through some light wood. The one with the circular saws he did on the Audition I believe the water filling up was a distraction and again the saws only fell down when he span himself around again another safety mechanism.

If I was a judge I wouldnt wanna say yes because he could do it again

The act is setup for the blades to swing down once the chair is setup right again, the level of the water has nothing to do with it. All he has to build is build suspense and look flustered.

its fake, the saws only come down when the weight is lifted off the chair. It has nothing to do with the water and the lines, and maat johnson has performed so many escapes and he has succeeded in all of them. I think he does a great job of creating suspense and fear.

That seems to be exactly what he said. If he didn't put himself upright thus pivoting the table the saws would have come for him. I think all escape artist tricks involve the very real risk of being seriously injured, even if not death, as has been proven time and time again. Otherwise, they would get no kick from it themselves

The most important part to know about that contraption is that it can't actually "cut" somebody to a point it would be dangerous or serious. The sawblades have the actual cutting teeth removed and are sanded smooth, they could only do slight to medium blunt force injuries, basically giving him a bruise on his chest or back if he were still strapped in when they fell. Also the "incrediblly fast" rpm of 2000 is a third of what they spin at in a real machine. The machine they are driven by, is the housing of a battery powered angle grinder, but it has all it's original guts removed and a slower, weaker motor put in. The chain is also very loose, it will most likely hop of or jump the sprocket if the blades were stuck, IF the rebuild angle grinder could even deliver enough torque to jump the chain. As soon as you have even a sligh tunderstanding of how this works, it doesn't work for you as a trick anymore. It's basically just acting like you're in danger. The hangign and drowning is another story of course ;)
