It's all part of the act.. those locks are rigged so he can easily pick them then the chainsaw isn't even a proper chainsaw it's cutting through some light wood. The one with the circular saws he did on the Audition I believe the water filling up was a distraction and again the saws only fell down when he span himself around again another safety mechanism.

The act is setup for the blades to swing down once the chair is setup right again, the level of the water has nothing to do with it. All he has to build is build suspense and look flustered.

I’m not sure if I’m right….it’s just a thought….the saw came down only when he pulled himself up. So the water tank didn’t trigger the drop, they body weight and movement did. So he is always safe cause regardless how full the tank is, the saws are coming down the second he flips his body (so he is always safe)….it’s just a thought and I could be wrong

The escape artist is a good actor- the trick is designed to release the saws by the rotation of the pivoting table he is secured to- In other words it is not dangerous. All escape artist tricks are designed this way.

That seems to be exactly what he said. If he didn't put himself upright thus pivoting the table the saws would have come for him. I think all escape artist tricks involve the very real risk of being seriously injured, even if not death, as has been proven time and time again. Otherwise, they would get no kick from it themselves

The most important part to know about that contraption is that it can't actually "cut" somebody to a point it would be dangerous or serious. The sawblades have the actual cutting teeth removed and are sanded smooth, they could only do slight to medium blunt force injuries, basically giving him a bruise on his chest or back if he were still strapped in when they fell. Also the "incrediblly fast" rpm of 2000 is a third of what they spin at in a real machine. The machine they are driven by, is the housing of a battery powered angle grinder, but it has all it's original guts removed and a slower, weaker motor put in. The chain is also very loose, it will most likely hop of or jump the sprocket if the blades were stuck, IF the rebuild angle grinder could even deliver enough torque to jump the chain. As soon as you have even a sligh tunderstanding of how this works, it doesn't work for you as a trick anymore. It's basically just acting like you're in danger. The hangign and drowning is another story of course ;)

its fake, the saws only come down when the weight is lifted off the chair. It has nothing to do with the water and the lines, and maat johnson has performed so many escapes and he has succeeded in all of them. I think he does a great job of creating suspense and fear.

I know everything about his escape is dangerous and deadly, but if you really see this escape acts what they usually do is the same they escape out of a handcuff or a clothe, the one thing that changes is the danger like the fire, blade or drowning. Any way its amazing.

It was planned. They cannot come down until he bend and move away with the whole mechanism. So until he moves back up then only bucket comes down and the mechanism lets them to come down. But good stuff 👏

For me the circle saw escape looked more like, the saw releasing mechanism was with the plate where the artist was on, than the water container. So no matter how much weight you put on the clear container the circle saws will not get released until the man is off the platform.. 😬

Escape artist tricks are built not to kill anyone. The first escape artist with the water filling up the tank is a distraction. The water has nothing to do with the spinning blades coming down. It is designed that the spinning blades come crashing down when he sits up right.

For all those wondering. The water doesn't control the saw blades up. When he got free and sat up, it triggered the latch to be released, allowing saws to fall Your welcome.
