It's ironic, this guys message is to give, be faithful, be kind, and love others. Yet, based on the comments on here, first thought people get is to hate on this guy. What a world we live in.

I do not understand why he won, let alone make it to finals. I don't mean to hate on the guy, but there were phenomenal acts this year, Aidan Bryant, Leà Kyle, World Taekwondo Demonstration Group, Victory Brinker, Josh Blue, and so many others. Like, if you wanted a magician, why not Leà Kyle? Her act is true magic, and would be a stunning Vegas Show. Talent. Aidan Bryant is self taught and he looks like he's flying through the air. That's talent. Victory is 9 years old and has the powerhouse voice of a grown adult. That is talent. The World Taekwondo Demo Group have been training in their art their entire lives, dedicating mind, soul, and body to their craft. Their act is true talent. I really thought AGT was turning it around this year because the finalists were a stunning variety of insanely talented acts, rather than all being singers. It isn't a bad thing to be a singer, but it was nice to have a vast range of finalists. The fact he was voted winner just proves that this show is America's Got Sob Stories, or you prefer, America has Talent but refuses to give it the spotlight it requires.

This guy won, I cannot believe this guy of all people won. I’m done watching this show forever.

I expected a more elaborate magic trick, I mean it's the finals.

You could tell it was kind of scripted because when the "random" boy said thank you he had a mic on him and you could hear what he said.

Also interesting, that I can find no articles or anything about how people are upset that he won. Or how you can see his slight of hand. This is the only place where those of us who saw through his act are talking about it. Just very strange. The media is silent on this one.

I was one of the audience members at the Finals live show in Dolby Theater on 9/14. Each one of us was given a blue ballpoint pen to write a message. But the note the "kid" supposedly written was written with a black thick marker, not a ballpoint pen.

Compared to other performances, this is truly unremarkable.

How come he gets 6 minutes, and everyone else gets only 3 minutes?

So many others with greater talent did not win this year? Over this man? What a shame...

Honestly it’s not even that he was doing an “inspiring” act for magic that bothers me. A previous magician, Jon Dorenbos (who’s own father killed his mother), also did a “inspiring” type of magic act, but my goodness he did like 20 tricks in a matter of seconds while at the same time touching your heart to the point most people had to keep replaying the video to focus and all the illusions he was performing. Dustins act is sooo long and this whole guessing what people wrote and thought is soooo over done. There’s literally a million of these and much more entertaining ones too. So many better magicians have auditioned on agt and didn’t make it past live shows. Jon dorenbos would have won his year but that season was packed with so much competition (Grace VanderWaal and the mind reading couple)

It's unbelievably obvious how he did it. He just swapped the paper Simon handed him for one he was palming or otherwise hiding in his hand and the kid was a plant.

I never watched any of the shows, only some of the acts here on this channel. I've watched Leah Kyle and the WTDT, and some others I knew didn't make the finals, so when I saw the headline today that Dustin Tavella, Magician, won AGT this year, I sought out this video to see what I missed. Apparently I didn't miss anything.

Magic is not about a trick but it also about inspiring people to change the world around them.

I'm not sure Dustin Tavella is the best magician technically, but I really admire him anyway. I love seeing magic acts who try and move us and provide stories/messages to enhance their routine. Engaging audiences is just as important as technical skill, and that is Tavella's special gift. With messages and visuals like that, the "How" is pretty much irrelevant. I'll really be rooting for Tavella in the results show...

Too much story, not enough magic. The story is really great but I didn't see this act for a story, I saw it to see magic and today I saw more story than magic. I did love his other performances though and I *give* him and his family my best wishes.
