This man was my old Spanish teacher. He was kind, funny, and always entertained us with songs and fun clips to help us learn. Christina was my old PE teacher. She was kind and overall a great person. Wooow. Bumped into this audition yesterday afternoon. Cried a river. Went out in the evening and told the story and the video was uploaded. Dint think l had more tears, but l did. Yup I member that day it happened it was sad that they all lost their lives. Yes it was all that they would say Kobe Bryant n Gigi, I know alot of people were upset because they didn't mention the others names only as the passengers. Its sad either way you look at it cause they're no longer here, may our grandpa(GOD OUR CREATOR) n our dad(Jesus) up above bring them comfort n protection n strength to carry on.

Idk anyone who only remembers Kobe and his daughter. My first thought was "omg. I hope the other families are compensated, remembered, honored, and have access to counseling bc many lives were just lost and this is traffic for EVERYONE involved." The world is not heartless, it's not bad, and most people have compassion for others. Just bc the ignorant is so loud and the media focuses on that, it doesn't mean that's how life really is. There are so many amazing individuals who felt bad and prayed for all involved.

When he sang that song, he invited everyone listening, to hear him sing that to his wife. He wasn't singing for anyone...or to anyone...except her. He only was there to invite us to listen to him do that. We witnessed real love, not just from the heart, but from the soul...looks like.

It wasn't like an audition. To me, it sounded like he was talking directly to his wife, and I really felt that! That was way beyond a performance, but heart-wrenching. It was painful.

It is a reminder that not just Kobe and Gianna died. Other families lost loved ones and their grief and pain is just as real. He’s a strong man and I can tell his wife was a beautiful soul. It was so special.

I watched this with my wife and had no clue that I would have the same experience this man had shortly after. I remember she cried, said it was so sad, he was so hurt. I have never been able to watch this since she left us; she caught COVID and was gone four days later. I wish things got better after such a crushing blow, but then 4 months later, our house caught fire; at least I got a chance to follow her advice, save my son, then grab the pictures and everything else we could replace. I can tell you that you are just now going through this, it is hell, but it gets better with time, the hurt is no less, but you learn to live with it.

I can't even imagine how hard it was for him to sing that song. After 15 years of marriage and 3 beautiful children, a year of grieving is just the beginning. No matter what happens, you know she is smiling down on them and that is truly all that matters.

I watched this audition when it aired. And I was stunned. Not only a great artist but an amazing person. When the world lost Kobe Bryant, Matt Mauser lost his world. I can't imagine his pain, nor would I wish it on anyone. I know as a child, losing a parent is arguably the toughest thing to go through.

Right! I’ve always loved this song, but hearing his story, his voice, his emotions.. Omg! He definitely brought a new meaning to this song. I felt every single word. It’s like for a moment I felt his pain & also his love for his wife. He took us into his world, if only for a brief moment. Everyone doesn’t have the ability to do that.

The media almost always refers to them only as the "7 others" when we hear about that horrific helicopter crash. I appreciated hearing the story of Christina and her beautiful family, they should always be named so that we can remember their lives as well.

This man really is strong and the son is trying his hardest to hold his emotions within himself & he’s hurting bad. Oldest is staying strong not only for the little one but for her dad. Baby doesn’t know nothing just knows her mom won’t be coming back. This is so sad I’m beyond happy for them for accomplishing things & living life to not forget to have fun & make memories happy. Grief is hard it won’t get better at all but it’ll get easier to control I’ve learned that. Happy for you sir! Keep it going for them

Matt was my teacher back when he taught at our elementary school. We're all very tight knit in that community, with a small class size that is kinda forced to become family. He was the best kind of teacher to have around, & his wife Christina was the best form of support through my years K-12. They're the most genuine family. He brought his guitar into class EVERY day and played our worries away with fun songs in spanish. Christina was so special and it's still so hard for me to believe she was gone. She helped me through some of my darkest days in my developmental years. I'm so happy to finally see him on a stage shining, where he truly belongs. To put a time on it, I'm 23 years old now and this was way BACK when i was in kindergarten! He is so deserving of this success, and I'm sending all my love and support to his family ❤️

“We did it! Let’s go get some ice cream!”. That’s probably what hit me the most in this video. The fact that he still has to be strong for his 3 kids. Seeing my daughter cry because she’s scared of the dark already breaks my heart. I can only imagine how painful it is to tell your kids that their mommy is gone while also trying to he strong for them.

The excruciating internal pain this man faces every day must be soul crushing, but his love for his kids gives him the strength to continue on. This performance honestly moved me so hard and these things never move me. And although he will more than likely never see this.. Saw this when his audition first came out. Goosebumps. 100000x better than original, hands down. I’ve watched this many times over, just now thought of him again, & showed my 14yr old too. I’ve listened to this Phil Collins song hundreds of times, but that’s the first time I really heard and felt the lyrics. He’s a great role model for his kids, and you can see his wife though looking at the kids…. I hope he finds someone to share his life with, you can love different people for different reasons. The tragic price for loving someone is the grief they leave behind when they go…😢😢😢👍

That oldest girl needs to know she doesn't have to replace her mom. I can see it in her face, she is thinking she has to grow up now and be the mom of the family. So many kids go through the same thing. I hope she has support around her that makes sure she can stay a child for as long as a normal child needs to
