Richard Goodall stole America's hearts last night on "America's Got Talent." I had the chance to have breakfast with Richard at the hotel on the morning I was on my way out after my previous night's taping, and he had just come in for his. The simple, genuine, and unassuming man I had the opportunity to get to know was just humbled to be there and had no lofty expectations. This weary nation needs a hero-it needs a dear soul like Richard Goodall, and he has stepped up to the plate and given it one. So many people feel as if they are without hope these days. Richard Goodall, a janitor from Indiana, just gave it to millions of them.

Cant imagine being a janitor for over 20 years, walking the halls for all that time, living day to day not realizing that your voice could literally shock the world. Brought me to tears just hearing him sing such an apropos song. Blew me away!

I suspect he knows exactly how good his voice is. He is very confident with a microphone in hand and projected well into the back rows of the crowd. I suspect he has low confidence and self esteem which has held him back. You can't be that fuckin' good and not progress on the stage of life. I appreciate I am making some assumptions, but I feel it from my own experiences.

I watch several Got Talent clips, mostly America and Britain though. One thing I do notice is on BGT the judges hit the golden buzzer in the moment of emotion, like after the song when everyone is cheering, and on AGT the judges hit the golden buzzer while giving their summary of the performance, thus taking part in the emotional moment instead of giving the emotional moment to the performer.

On Canada's Got Talent all Golden Buzzers receive $25,000 (tax free) & top prize is $1,000,000 Canadian (roughly about $730,000 - tax free). Pretty disappointed that AGT buzzers don't win anything, He really deserves $25,000!

I'm 20 years old and this video gave me hope. I clean houses every week and I'm also a musician. This guy waited 23 years to get his moment and HE deserved it. ❤ Edit: I started teaching classical guitar and I got three students so far. God is good! Also, who's here after Richard's big win? I only watched his performances and he did it!

I love it when someone who is humble shows up and shares a little bit of themselves with others. No flash, nothing put on or over the top, just pure talent in jeans and shirt. Loved that he got the Golden Buzzer.

This was my janitor in elementary at Hoosier prairie, he was a very kind man and i am very proud to see where he is now, i saw he made it to America's got talent but never knew he got the golden buzzer

first time I watched this. my wife was upstairs and asked me why I was listing to journey on the TV, I called her down and played it again and she was crying, she then called my daughter downstairs to watch it, and by the end she way crying too.. Richards voice and talent touches souls. keep it up!

From the first note you can see the two girls react as if oh no this guy can’t be for real. Steve Perry has a beautiful rare voice in all of rock history and Richard did the song justice.

As someone else said, the reason his fiancé wasn't there was probably because they couldn't afford tickets, or both of them taking time off work. It warms my heart to know that his family will never have to miss another performance of his because of money.

I did not expect him to be so good! He is very humble & that makes him even more likable. He might have been very nervous but he didn't let it get to him. If u think he was good, you have to check out Bella who won The Voice Australia a few years ago! She was very sweet & humble, too.

As someone who worked in a school for 10 years, I LOVE the custodial crew. They’re the most humble, sweetest people ever that’ll do anything to help others. I absolutely love and respect them. And so many of them have such amazing hidden talents like this. I absolutely loved this, that golden buzzer was well deserved. America loves you, Richard!

He is the janitor at my twins school, West Vigo. They were screaming and crying tears of happiness for Mr. Richard last night with their friends, I was right there with them, as was the entire Vigo County community! We are SO excited for him! He has a beautiful high tenor altino. Brilliant counter tenor vocal range. It's a gift from God, naturally born. Considered the most desirable singing voice. Bon Jovi even called Steve Perry, "The Voice". Not many people have this smoothe sound, singing voice. He's just lovely. ❤❤

It's never too late to pursue your dream, Shade Tree. You'll always wonder if you don't at least try. Look what happened when Richard finally did. He was fantastic! He's never been told just how good he really is, which is a shame. The students encouraged him, but hearing it from professionals hopefully has increased his confidence to truly believe in himself. If you prefer to try in a seniors division of singers only, The Voice in many countries, except the US, has both a Seniors version and a Kids version. Otherwise,, do what Richard finally did. He could've had a career as a singer, so it's a shame that he didn't try 20 to 30 years ago. What matters now, though, is that he gathered the courage to take the plunge after all of these years and got to realize just how talented he really is. That's not easy for someone who's shy and so humble. You can do it, too. Give it a try, Shade Tree, Jr!

100% …. The to show is full of semi pro or full time professionals and half of them come from overseas. I always thought it was about finding ordinary gems like this fella … seems I’m mistaken. Our recent series even had semifinalists from other countries comps which the judges seemingly didn’t know about thinking they were appearing for the first time. 🤦🏼♂️. Hope this guys goes on to win… Journet themselves could it have done a better job 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Now, now, let's not get carried away. Was Richard good? Absolutely. But his "highs", were falsetto, and Richard didn't have the POWER, or the *_SOUL_* that Steve had in his youth. There's a REASON he's called "the Voice". But Richard WAS on key, and I hope he does well. This decade's Susan Boyle.

I think you would enjoy Brian Kiley(Dry Bar Comedy). Like Richard here, I’ve watched his ‘One Liner Video’ at least a dozen times. He talks about his grandfather coming to this country, looking for a better life. Then he says, grandma caught up with him and put a stop to that. Most of Dry Bar is great. I’m 72 and get choked up watching Richard 😎

As a retired Director of Facilities for a Public School District, the Custodial staff are so taken for granted. They perform one of the most important jobs in a school system keeping the folks inside that building healthy by keeping the facility clean.
